Course Description

In this webinar, we will learn about the lived experiences of those who identify as female and have experienced intimate partner violence from a female partner. This original research aims to provide a voice for sex/gender-diverse females (SGDF) in their experience of working through the trauma of sexual assaults in same-sex relationships. They describe current use of interventions, and the speaker will propose the use of Caring Science Theory by Dr. Jean Watson as a framework for building trusting relationships, offering a space for healing using artistic techniques of photo elicitation and storyboards.

Results are presented as four themes and relate to the time of data collection during the COVID-19 pandemic. The discussion offers descriptions of strategies used by SGDFs and asks if the current interventions and timing work for this population. Implications are suggested for improving the nurse-client dynamic and potential policy, health promotion, and prevention initiatives.

Objectives:

  • To explore trust in the participant-nurse relationship when co-creating an experience using Self as an instrument of Caring
  • Develop an understanding of the intersection of vulnerability, environment, and trust for sex/gender-diverse females in clinical practice
  • Appraise the use of artistic techniques for using photo elicitation and storyboarding in semi-structured interviews
  • Value the implications and results of the study for clinical practice and social policy research
