This session will explore the complex and alarming issue of medical abuse of a child, more commonly referred to as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSBP). Through a detailed case study, we will review an investigation into this form of child abuse, highlighting how medical professionals can become unwitting accomplices. Attendees will also learn about a newly developed screening tool designed to help healthcare providers identify and respond to MSBP more effectively, potentially saving lives and preventing further harm.
By attending, participants will gain crucial insights into the subtle signs of medical abuse, the ethical challenges involved in these cases, and the importance of early intervention. This presentation is essential for healthcare providers, social workers, and anyone involved in child welfare, providing them with the knowledge to protect vulnerable children from this hidden form of abuse.
